China and the US seek better military ties
Chinese General Xu Caihou made a rare visit to the Pentagon on Tuesday as he met with US Defense Secretay Robert Gates. The two top officials mae a pledge to improve military ties and communication between the two superpowers.
The recent incident when Chinese fishing boats harrassed an American warship was not discussed. In the confrontation several Chinese fishing boats rushed the US ship in an area of disputed waters. The US called the waters international and China was attempting to extend its zone of influence in the region.
There have been many ups and downs in the military relationship between the US and China. It is nice to see a genuine attempt and pledge given by two men of power within both governments to improve relations and avoid future conflicts.
