China in serious danger of World Cup soccer elimination

China is in danger of missing out on another World Cup.  This one would be a serious disappointment to miss too since it is in the soccer mecca of Brazil in 2014.  The Chinese have pinned alot of hope on a successful qualifying run, but instead look to be in serious danger of crashing out in the early rounds.

With half of the opening round group matches in the books, China find themselves in third place of Group A firmly behind surprising Jordan and a solid side from Iraq.  An opening home win over Singapore looked to have gotten China off on the right foot.

Things quickly soured though as they have lost their last two.  A road loss at Jordan and then the real bitter result of a home loss to Iraq.  Iraq grabbed a goal in first half stoppage time and then held on despite playing the last half hour on ten men following a red card.  You have to win your home games to advance in World Cup qualifying. 

The results leave China in a bad spot.  Trailing Iraq by three points with three games to play.  The worse news is that China only has one home match left on the schedule.  The key fixture is coming next month as China travels to Iraq.  A road win is almost required to get back into the race.  An Iraq win would all but end China hopes of World Cup 2014.
