Travelling to China in the near future? Here are some hints and ideas to not be that obnoxious tourist in your China travels. Do you research and try to learn some Chinese culture and some hints on how to function within the Chinese society rather than standing out like a sore thumb. There are plenty of websites on the internet that offer wonderful advice on traditions and proper behaviour.
Don't be wasteful. Eat what you take and do not leave a alot of food when you are done. It is considered rude and a show that you did not like the meal. Be conservative on everything you do. Don't overdo it and be respectful.
Dress respectfully. Bright colors are not the norm. Shorts are reserved for exercise. So when touristing around a good pair of jeans is the best. Public displays of affection are not common either.
When shopping in the markets do not be afraid to barter a bit. It is respected by the merchants there and almost expected.
Beijing and the main cities within China have become much more modern over the last decade and offer many great shopping and tourist attractions for visitors.
