Riots Continue in Xinjiang
The riots continued in Western China as muslims in Xinjiang marched in the streets and stood up to Chinese authorities. Security was tightened in the region, but even so some unrest appeared to be spreading in the volatile region, where long-standing ethnic tensions periodically erupt into bloodshed. Police dispersed around 200 people at the Id Kah mosque in the Silk Road city of Kashgar on Monday evening,
Reports were of 156 deaths and over 800 injuries just on Monday from the widespread demonstrations. Chinese officials have blamed the unrest on separatist groups and radicals abroad, who it says want to create an independent homeland for the Muslim Uighur minority.
Officials limited internet access in the region, blocked twitter and cut mobile phone services. Even so some videos were able to get out to youtube.
