The Beijing-Tibet expressway has been clogged for almost two weeks by an increase in trucking heading to the capital and was compounded by road work.
The traffic jam between Beijing and Jining city is so large that it has given birth to a mini-economy with local merchants capitalising on the stranded drivers' predicament by selling them water and food at inflated prices. With the road maintenance not expected to be finished anytime soon, the Beijing traffic jam is expected to last well into September.
